We read with interest the recent publication by Ensor et al.1 and concur with their concerns regarding the high frequency of extended-spectrum ß-lactamase (ESBL) genotypes in India. However, in 2002 The Indian Antimicrobial Resistance Study Group published their findings on broad-spectrum ß-lactam resistance and ESBL phenotypes in Enterobacteriaceae including Salmonella spp. The isolates were part of the MYSTIC Programme and were
