A modified population analysis profile (PAP) method to detect hetero-resistance to vancomycin in Staphylococcus aureus in a UK hospital

The first sentence of the Results section contained an inaccurate description of the interpretive criteria used for the screening method. A corrected version of the sentence follows:

Using Hiramatsu's screening method with inocula at 0.5 McFarland, five MRSA isolates exhibited confluent growth at 24 h, suggesting homogeneous resistance (VRSA), and five exhibited one or more colonies at 48 h, suggesting they were hVRSA.

The authors wish to offer their apologies for this error. The conclusions of the study remain unaltered.
