Sir,

The complete nucleotide sequence of the 2699 bp ColE-like quinolone resistance (qnrB19) plasmid pSGI15 is described.

Within the European Union (EU) Network of Excellence Med-Vet-Net, an investigation on the molecular epidemiology of Salmonella genomic island 1 (SGI1) in enteric bacteria other than Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium definitive phage type 104 (DT104) was undertaken. For this study 445 multiresistant strains (S. enterica, 277; Escherichia coli, 116; Shigella spp., 43; and Proteus spp., 9) isolated from animals, food and humans between 2001 and 2006 were investigated. Among them, 53% Salmonella isolates were found to be SGI1 positive.1 Thirty-eight strains, including all SGI1-positive isolates unrelated to DT104, were sent to the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) . . .
