Fungi live as saprophytes on the remains of other plants or animals; however, some moulds are poisonous or toxic organisms causing infectious or allergic diseases in man, animals and plants. Despite these negative effects, the positive interaction of mankind with moulds outweighs their deleterious effects, considering their important role in medicine, science, biotechnology and food production.
