Figure 1. Effect of atibiotic carry-over on agar plates inoculated by the Spiral system. Mueller-Hinton broth containing 8 U/ml penicillin G was inoculated with S. aureus, and distributed with the Spiral inoculator on to 14-cm petri dishes. On the left, without ß-lactamase; the carry-over is clearcut. On the right, the same specimen was inoculated on to agar conaining penicillinase; no central inhibition zone was observed.
